Waste2Value focus their efforts on energy recovery from biomass waste through hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) and hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL). Our research explores the potential of hydrochar as a biofuel, soil enhancer, and catalytic support, while also investigating process water for methane production via anaerobic digestion and hydrogen generation through dark fermentation. Through these innovative approaches, we contribute to sustainable energy solutions and the advancement of the circular economy.

Waste2Value at the UAM Sustainability Fair

On September 26th, our research group Waste2Value participated in the Sustainable Food and Agroecological Campus Fair, organized by the Sustainability Office of the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM). This event, held in the Plaza Mayor of the Cantoblanco Campus, brought together various agents committed to the promotion of fairer and more sustainable systems of production and consumption.

During the fair, we presented two of our innovative lines of research:

  • Adsorption of dyes with carbons obtained by hydrothermal carbonization of pig slurry.
  • Water filtration with membranes to improve water quality.

Through demonstrative trials, we show how it is possible to transform waste into valuable resources, contributing to the development of sustainable solutions that minimize environmental impact.
